Ginger-Turmeric "Golden" Hot Chocolate

An anti-inflammatory twist on traditional hot
chocolate.

Ingredients
  

For Hot Chocolate Base
  • - 3 cups coconut milk
  • - 1 cup almond milk
  • - 3 oz dark chocolate 70% or higher, chopped
  • - 2 tablespoons raw cacao powder
  • - 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • - 1-inch fresh ginger grated
  • - 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • - 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • - 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • - Pinch of sea salt
For Garnish
  • - Coconut whipped cream
  • - Ground cinnamon
  • - Grated dark chocolate
  • - Ground turmeric for dusting
  • - Gingerbread cookie gluten- and dairy-free

Method
 

Preparing Base
  1. In medium saucepan combine:
  2. - Both milks
  3. - Grated ginger
  4. - Turmeric
  5. - Black pepper
  6. - Cinnamon
  7. - Salt
  8. Heat until steaming (do not boil).
  9. Whisk in:
  10. - Chopped chocolate
  11. - Cacao powder
  12. - Maple syrup
  13. Simmer 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
Serving
  1. Strain through fine-mesh sieve.
  2. Pour into mugs.
  3. Top with coconut whipped cream.
  4. Dust with spices.
